Interested in getting more involved with state government? Looking to make a
difference in your community? Following are some ways you can get involved:
Apply for a Gubernatorial appointment. As a member of the Senate Nominations Committee,
Senator Nelson plays an important role in the confirmation of gubernatorial appointees.
One of her goals is to increase the number of Senate District 12 residents to serve on state
boards and commissions. Click here for a list of vacancies.
Be sure to copy Senator Nelson on your application to the governor’s office.
Be a legislative resource. Senator Nelson relies on the input of constituents to make informed decisions.
If you have a particular skill or expertise you are willing to share, be sure to make that known. She gets her best ideas from her constituents!
Plug in to political groups. Republican clubs are extremely active in both Tarrant and Denton counties.
For a list of clubs in your area, visit the Tarrant County Republican Party and Denton County
Republican Party online.
Visit the State Capitol. The Texas Legislature is in session during odd-numbered years, but the Texas Capitol
is open for visitors every day. It is the nation’s largest capitol building, and groups from Senate District 12
visit regularly. Local Chamber of Commerce Leadership classes, school classes, boy/girl scouts, and other groups often take the opportunity to travel to Austin
to visit the Capitol. Contact Senator Nelson’s office for
information on how to arrange a group visit. We'd be happy to assist.
