84th Texas Legislative Session Begins

Today the Texas Legislature reconvened for its 84th Regular Session, which will meet for the next 140 days in accordance with the state Constitution and will adjourn sine die on June 1, 2015.
"It is an honor to continue to represent the people of Senate District 12," said Senator Jane Nelson. "I will fight every day on behalf of our values and priorities. Together we will make sure Texas remains a place of growth, opportunity and freedom."
Senator Nelson is currently the dean, or most senior member, of the Republican Caucus and is currently serving as chair of the Senate Finance Committee. She has filed 12 pieces of legislation since pre-filing began on November 10, 2014.
Yesterday, the Texas Comptroller released his biennial revenue estimate, outlining the amount of money the Legislature can appropriate over the next two years. The report predicts the state will have $ 113 billion in funds available for the upcoming budget. "I am confident this estimate will allow us to meet our meet our needs, achieve tax relief and continue the policies of fiscal responsibility that have helped Texas to grow and prosper," said Senator Nelson.
