SENATOR NELSON TACKLES MEDICAID COSTS

The Senate's Health and Human Services Committee, chaired by Senator Nelson, met this month to address efficiency, quality, and cost in the state's Medicaid program. "Every dollar we lose to waste and abuse is a dollar that could have been used for services for those who truly need them," said Senator Nelson. "Regardless of our economic circumstances, we should always be working to make our health care system more efficient by encouraging patient care coordination and aligning financial incentives with healthy outcomes." The committee heard invited and public testimony on several cost-containment strategies and will report its findings to the Legislature prior to the next session, which begins in January.
