Texas Senate Passes SB 7 To Reform Medicaid
March 25, 2013
The Texas Senate voted unanimously today to pass SB 7 authored by Senator Jane Nelson. The bill redesigns the Medicaid long-term care system for individuals with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as low-income seniors.
"We just took a major step forward in our effort to improve the quality of our long-term care services in Medicaid – and to reach more Texans with state services," said Senator Nelson. "Under SB 7, services continue – and improve – for everyone currently receiving them."
The bill, which was unanimously approved by the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services, ensures that all services individuals are receiving now will continue to be delivered, as well as provides services to 12,000 Texans who are currently receiving no services. The bill now moves to the Texas House of Representatives for further consideration.
"I truly believe this legislation is going to make a positive impact in the lives of seniors and Texans with disabilities," said Senator Nelson. "SB 7 ensures that we are providing the best possible care – now and into the future."
